Seamless Graphics' predecessor, Seamless Graphics, Inc., was formed in January 1990. The two founders, Mark Hardee and Michael Howse, had been working out of their houses for some time working with several clients that were starting to realize just how effective this new "desktop publishing" realm was going to be. Mark was in the printing industry and Mike was involved in a procurement position with a local company. Mark's involvement within the industry afford him the vision for this startup opportunity. A full time employee was added and the work began.
From the start, Seamless Graphics quickly became the leader in prepress film output and file work. We sought after the "hard" jobs, the challenging jobs. From the first day the operation was running two full shifts to met the demand from printers as well as advertising agencies in the Memphis Tennessee and surrounding areas. Within the first year, additional workstations as well as another imagesetter was purchased.
With hard work and definitely long hours, the company prospered. They came to involved as beta testers as well as alliances with the software companies that developed prepress software such as Adobe, Quark and Macromedia. This help the company to stay on the bleeding edge of technology by having an opportunity to test and use the software that would be released to the general public.
Taking this approach, led us to stick our proverbial necks out when it came to technology and purchased and installed the very first automated trapping solution that was installed in area. This was a unix-based rip that is the foundation for many of the trapping solutions we, today, take in stride.
The company rocked along for fourteen years. At that time, the advent of CTP (computer to plate) technologies presented then a crossroads. Film was on the way out. As most of our clients were printers, going into the digital print world would put us in direct competition with the, something we felt would not be a way of thanking them for years of dedication. So, with that in mind, we closed that portion of the business, sold the equipment and dissolved the corporation.
Mark open the business back up immediately as a much smaller, purposed entity. That is where the business is to this day. Mark has been involved in the direct mail, direct marketing variable data and workflow resolution since that time. Working with printers and direct marketers to either establish or hone their digital workflows.
